Congratulations to St Francis church which has been awarded £223,111 from the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund in a five-year grant to continue their successful community work. The work includes their Food Stop shop, Place of Welcome coffee morning, and many community events throughout the year – such as the recent King’s Coronation Party.
In addition to that, the Lottery has agreed to fund some new initiatives including a Men’s Shed, Cooking classes and a Grow Your Own, vegetable garden. The Men’s Shed will engage hard-to-reach men in making small repairs to household items in a fully equipped shed, and at the same time give emotional support and assistance. The work addresses two themes in particular – providing practical and emotional help to those in distress or poverty, as well as encouraging sustainable living in various ways – for example by not allowing food to go to waste, and by repairing household items.
