On Sunday, I was contacted by a resident who said that some concrete had fallen from the 2nd storey window of Explore Learning (910 Brighton Road). She had tried to report and was naturally very worried about further pieces falling given cracking masonry and
I asked the Building Control team to urgently assess the site, which they have now done. They have confirmed what the resident reported and said that the transom had to be assessed, with any loose parts discarded to remove the immediate danger. The landlord was therefore advised to contact the Highways Team to arrange this urgently.
In the interim, the pavement area below the affected window was taped off as a temporary measure.
I'm delighted that the owner acted promptly and sorted this out, meaning this is no longer considered to be a dangerous structure and any further repairs can be carried out by the owner in due course.
My thanks go to the resident who brought this to my attention, and to the Council and owner for taking swift action. I am glad the situation didn't worsen and that no one was hurt.
