A number of residents have contacted me about a planning application for 4 flats for 30 Wyvern Road. I have referred this application, meaning that should Council officers recommend approval, I will have the right to speak against it when it appears before Planning Committee.
The application does not provide adequate amenity space for potential occupiers, is out of character and severely affects neighbouring properties.
Additionally, whilst breaches of planning permission is an issue across Purley & Woodcote, Wyvern Road has arguably suffered from this problem more than most roads within the ward. There have been live investigations into breaches already on this road and with a lack of enforcement officers, I am deeply concerned that this development will likely only add to problems/frustration of local residents.
Under the previous Labour administration, streets like Wyvern Road were badly affected by overdevelopment and the consequences stemming from it like more cars and more speeding. I fear if approved, this development will only add to the problems Wyvern Road and neighbouring Hereward Avenue and Pampisford Road currently face.
Whilst this application will go to the Planning Committee (if officers recommend approval), I still encourage residents to object so both Council officers and the Planning Committee see the strength of feeling amongst local residents.
The application can be found here. To comment by Tuesday 25th April:
- Use the online comments facility following instruction on the online planning register;
- Email [email protected];
- Or send a letter to: Development Management, Sustainable Communities, Regeneration and Economic Recovery Department, Bernard Weatherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon CR0 1EA.
Please quote the application number (23/01063/FUL) in any correspondence.
Be assured that I will always stand up for local residents across Purley & Woodcote in opposing inappropriate applications that do little to solve housing problems in Croydon.
