The Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry and myself had the pleasure of attending Trumble Gardens, Thornton Heath's first Action Day.
This is an example of a community taking ownership of a sad case of neglect and as a result anti social behaviour has increased. The local community members have taken ownership of the situation, and formed their own Friends of group, and took to the ground running, with their first action day which happened today.
The first and after impact of their efforts is stark. Both Jason and myself did a small part in this exercise, and helped with the litter pick. Residents were clearing fly-tips, trimming bushes etc. The council arranged for the collection of the waste after this.
I look forward to working with this group going forward.
