I attended the Holocaust Memorial Event hosted in the Town Hall on Friday. The event bought together school children from Oasis School Coulsdon and Riddlesdown Colligate alongside Anita Peleg and Dr. Liliia Budnick who gave harrowing accounts of how the Holocaust and recent events in Ukraine had impacted their families.
It was an honour and privilege to take part in this event. The accounts of the atrocities that were inflicted on the Jewish people in the past and Ukrainian people today are difficult to hear. It is so important that these events are remembered and highlighted. This years event focused on the actions and stories of ‘Ordinary People’ and reminded us all that it is often ordinary peoples actions or inaction that can be the catalyst that allow such horrific events to occur.
