I have been pushing Council officers to put pressure on Polaska who own the old Sainsbury’s site to carry out remediation repairs, including the fixing of the lifts and published a blog about this.
I am pleased to update that I have been assured that the broken lifts will be repaired this month (electrics and replacement of the shutter). This will allow the lifts to finally reopen. I will follow-up with Council officers in early February if this deadline has not been met.
Unfortunately, progress in other areas is too slow. The Council have said they will carry out these works and recharge Polaska but written confirmation of this is being sort. I am grateful to officers for pushing Polaska and urge them to apply strict deadlines to ensure that repairs are made at the earliest possible opportunity.
The multi-storey car park as things stands reflects very poorly on Purley. It undermines our reputation, discourages footfall and has undoubtedly harmed local businesses. I will continue to work to see meaningful action in the weeks ahead.
