Today I walked around Monks Hill with Veolia and Croydon Council staff checking on the recycling arrangements in the blocks of flats. This was a follow-up visit to a similar visit a month ago.
We had previously found issues with the bins not being collected. This had in the meantime been rectified.
During the initial visit I had noticed that the bins provided did not match what was in the Veolia and Council systems for collection. This does not seem to have been an issue with the regular crews, who know the estate, but on occasions where a different crew deployed it resulted in missed collections. Veolia are looking in to getting the system aligned with what is physically in place on the ground.
Lastly there are issues with the provision of bins being sub-optimal. We are looking at solutions. A pilot programme changing the arrangements at a couple of the blocks is the mostly likely next step.
Improving recycling and bin collection has many benefits. Residents get the service they need, and the blocks are neater, tidier and an altogether nicer place to live. We hope that this will also improve recycling rates, so better for the environment too.
