At the recent Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham I met up with the Alzheimer’s Society. At their stand it was helpful to meet with John, who told me about the barriers he’d faced to receiving a diagnosis of dementia.
Getting a timely diagnosis is so important to people living with dementia and especially difficult for those with the condition to navigate the system. We need to make it easier for people to get the diagnosis they need.
At the moment 2,684 people in Croydon have a diagnosis of dementia. However, the estimated number of people in Croydon living with dementia is 3,620. This gives an estimated diagnosis rate of 74% which is better than the national target. By 2030, it is estimated there will be more than 5,000 people living with dementia in Croydon.
