I have been involved in the work of the SECHC as its Vice Chairman since 2014. When Civic Mayor for Croydon it was one of my chosen charities. Great work and support at the centre. Do get in touch if you need help and support.
The annual Paint Purley Purple (PPP) awareness and fundraising campaign for the South East Cancer Help Centre (SECHC) is being held throughout October 2022. SECHC is calling on local shops, businesses, schools, organisations and residents to hold purple-themed fundraising events or activities and share their efforts on social media #PaintPurleyPurple.
Once again, the trees and benches of Purley have been covered in purple knitting, and with thanks to all the knitters who have participated the display is now bigger than ever.
A month of fundraising activities started with SECHC supporter Tom Parker running the London Marathon on 2nd October.
This year’s campaign was launched by SECHC patron Chris Philp MP for Croydon South and attended by the Civic Mayor Cllr Alisa Flemming.
The Centre offered online and telephone services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and has now been open for just over a year for in person appointments. SECHC Chairman Jennifer Mollett said “We are so pleased to have been able to offer hands on complementary therapies and group activities again, as well as one-to-one Counselling Sessions at the Centre. We know that the feeling of isolation during the pandemic has had a huge impact on the wellbeing of people affected by cancer and being able to come to Centre and spend time with others has made a positive difference.”
“Please encourage your friends, business owners, clubs, classes and schools to join in to spread the word about the support available and to help us raise the funds to keep going.”
Thanks to support from local businesses including FSB Insurance Services, David Lloyd Club Purley, Barchester Chestnut Gardens, Lucinda’s Boutique and others, SECHC can increase its reach and help more people.
Local schools are also getting involved with mufti days and PPP assemblies.
This month also sees the introduction of a SECHC Book Club on Tuesday 25 October. With thanks to Purley Library, the Book of the Month for October is The Color Purple. Alice Walker’s iconic novel was first published 40 years ago and remains on the BBC’s list of the 100 most influential novels. Non-members are welcome to join in, please contact the SECHC for more information.
