A quick walk around Sanderstead reveals quite a few missing road signs. The large sign on Limpsfield Road just before the roundabout and the large sign on Mitchley Avenue just before Mitchley Hill are missing whilst the smaller road sign that shows where Mitchley Avenue becomes Rectory Park is broken. These signs are important in helping motorists know where they are going before they get to a junction and have to decide which way to go. I’m sure there have been some confused people who’ve take a wrong turn.
I am aware that Riddlesdown Residents Assocation raised the issue of the large Mitchley Avenue sign some months ago and as none of these missing signs have been addressed, I have raised it again myself, I suspect getting exactly the same response:
“As you may be aware, our contract with JC Decaux has ended, and the Council retained the traffic signs that JC Decaux previously managed on our behalf.
I can confirm that our staff are aware of the missing sign in Mitchley Avenue and we are currently reviewing that location as well as other ex - JC Decaux sign locations across the borough with a plan to upgrade those signs and posts with standard signs.
As part of the process, we will be determining which of those JC Decaux signs are no longer required and where changes may be needed to be made to the signs e.g. where signs previously indicated roundabouts which are no longer in place. Once we have a full list and to allow us to negotiate better sign supply and installation rates, we plan to bulk order the signs.
Once again please accept our apologies for the delay. As soon as we have completed the review, arrangements will be made to have the sign replaced.”
Obviously, we’d want to have this resolved as soon as possible and I will be pushing for this. If you are aware of any further missing, or inaccurate signs, do let me know so that I can pass on the information. Meanwhile, I will ask that the Mitchley Avenue/Rectory Park sign be made safe in the meantime.
