Come and join the Friends:
We achieved a tremendous amount of work on and around the green last month, far more than I thought possible, thanks in part to some new younger members who turned up. A long lost ‘CLEAN IT UP’ sign has reappeared after years in the undergrowth, and a substantial fallen branch was made safe. well done everybody. And now a big request for even more younger and fit members to come and help, as sadly the regular bunch who turn up are not as young or anywhere near as fit as they used to be!
What a day it was, in the afternoon the Fun Dog Show took place and fun it certainly was, enjoyed by dogs, owners and spectators and especially me when my little dog won a first in the Golden Oldies class. Thank you, Cat, Kim and the team for such a well organised event and for the donation to FoPB.
However, we didn’t get around to clearing the brambles and nettles from the far side of the green. They have completely overgrown the daffodils we planted some years back, so this month’s work party will concentrate on that area. Shears and hedge cutters will be required and as intended last month this could be good opportunity to train others in the safe use of our large, battery powered brush cutter. A lot of raking up will be required, but I think we can just dump the arisings further back onto the remaining undergrowth and that will help to suppress future growth.
As always when dealing with brambles and nettles, covered arms and legs is best and strong, thick gloves essential, please come prepared including your favourite beverage for elevenses. Arrive and depart anytime between 9am and 1pm and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
