I'm delighted to see that planning officers have refused an application for demolition of the attractive Edwardian home at 79 Downs Court Road (almost opposite St James Road) and its replacement by a block of six flats with only three parking spaces (ref: 21/04117/FUL).
I objected passionately to this application when I first saw it back in August. My grounds for objection included:
- lack of amenity space
- inadequate access for the disabled
- inadequate parking
- seriously flawed transport statement which failed to mention that Downs Court Road is a very steep hiil!
- Cumulative Impact on the surrounding area.
It's a relief to see that just occasionally, fundamentally bad designs do get rejected outright by officers, so it did not even come to committee.
