I was delighted to attend the Sakura Cherry Tree Project official planting ceremony in Sanderstead Recreation Ground. When Theresa May our then Prime Minister met with the Prime Minister of Japan a gift of over 7,000 trees was given for the parks and schools across London. This is a great way to celebrate a new era of Japan-UK friendship and co-operation. It was a pleasure ot talk to Mr Keisaku Sandy Sano and Victoria Borwick about the scheme. At our own event at the park children from local schools sang and read poetry and the Mayor of Croydon officially planted one of the trees. I am grateful to all involved in the project but particularly to Priscillas, Waitrose, The SRA, Rotary and the Friends of Green Spaces Group who worked closely alongside the council to bring about this important event. I can't wait to see the cherrys when they blossom. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long!
