At yesterday's planning committee meeting, I stood in for Cllr Creatura in objecting to a plan to demolish one of the large Edwardian-era family homes in Fairdene Road and replace it, inevitably, with a block of nine flats.
Maureen Levy of ECRA and I both delivered impassioned speeches against this application, and I'm delighted to report that our pleas were successful. As you can see from the accompanying photos, the new design was totally out of character by comparison with all its neighbours, especially because it required a semi-basement garage, and some flats were also partly below ground level.
