I have received the following email from the council in respect of the missed recycling and waste collections:
The following message is being put on our website today; an update on the current position regarding waste and recycling collections in light of both driver shortages and the fuel situation.
“DRIVER SHORTAGE AND CONGESTION IMPACTS WASTE AND RECYCLING COLLECTIONS
Rubbish and recycling collections in Croydon are being severely impacted by the HGV driver shortage and traffic congestion around fuel stations.
Croydon Council’s waste contractor Veolia is operating with a reduced number of drivers and the increase in traffic across the borough means their journeys are taking much longer than usual, and some collections are being delayed as a result.
If your road is not collected on schedule, please don’t report this as a missed collection, but leave your waste and recycling out and crews will get to you as soon as possible. More information, including which roads have been affected, will be published on the council’s website daily at https://www.croydon.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling/bins/rubbish-bins/report-rubbish-collection-problem
Report a rubbish collection problem | Croydon Council
Rubbish bins. What goes in your general rubbish bin, house rubbish collections, flat and estates rubbish collections, check your collection days, report a missed collection and how to order a replacement rubbish bin.
Residents should continue to report individual missed collections – where crews collect from other properties on their street but miss theirs – in the same way as usual.
Veolia and the council have already made significant operational changes to alleviate the pressure on crews and reduce delays, and will continue to work closely together to minimise disruption for our residents.”
