A new Wellness Centre opened in the heart of Croydon in the Whitgift Centre on Thursday, 20 February 2020. Andrew Brown CEO of the BME Forum met with Cllr Yvette Hopley, Shadow Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Vice Chairman of the South East Cancer Help Centre, to see how she could help bring his dream come true.
Cllr Hopley said: “When I met Andrew last year he asked if I would help him get support for the Wellness Centre and discuss what services the South East Cancer Help Centre would be able to provide at this new facility.
“I was so pleased that my Conservative Colleagues were able to give some £18,000 from their community ward budgets to help kick start the project. In my capacity as Vice Chairman of the South East Cancer Help Centre we were also able to give advice on how services could be delivered here in Croydon with consultations starting next month.”
Key to the success of this project has been Andrew and his team of trustees and aids working in collaboration with the CCG, SLAM, CUH and many other local businesses and charitable organisations. Over 23 dynamic health services and workshops are to be provided and this will mean a fantastic facility for the residents of Croydon and all who call at the door.
Andrew Brown said: “I am very grateful to Cllr Hopley for all her help and all the local councillors who have supported the centre. Thank you Yvette for believing in me and helping bring the dawning of a long term objective to fruition. I look forward to working with you and your colleagues over the coming months and years to ensure that the residents of Croydon are supported through the new centre”.
