Network Rail has advised of works taking place overnight between Sanderstead Station and
Riddlesdown Station from Tuesday 31st August and Friday 3rd September.
Riddlesdown RA has posted the following information:
"Overnight Rail Engineering Works
For those residents who live near to the railway line between Sanderstead and Riddlesdown Stations, Network Rail have advised that essential maintenance works will be undertaken from midnight on Tuesday 31 August to 05.00hrs Friday 3 September 2021. This work is each night between these times and not during the day.
These works will involve installing rails and moving ballast using an engineering train and other equipment. They will also be using a rail delivery train and heavy track plant to remove and install the rails and other components. They say the equipment they use means some disturbance is unavoidable, but they will make every effort to minimise unnecessary noise.
As the rail line between these two stations is mainly in the valley, no doubt the noise will reverberate around the valley and beyond! For those using the trains between London and East Grinstead/Uckfield and vice versa, it does mean the late night and early morning trains are cancelled, and buses will replace the service (not for Riddlesdown Station though).
