Residents have raised concerns about the condition of Sanderstead pond. There is a log of algae and vegetation. I took the matter up with the council and had a reassuring response.
"The pond is always full with vegetation at this time of year but TCV Croydon is booked to attend the pond in September, as every year, to remove excess plants and give the pond some TLC. The excessive plant growth will temporarily reduce the amount of open water which will only impact the ducks who find other ponds until the growth is cleared. Fish will not be impacted by excess plant growth. Any algae will be the result of people feeding despite there being signs to say please don’t.
Please reassure the member of the public, that despite the pond appearing to look untidy, natures exuberant growth is natural, and our volunteers will attend in September to clear the overgrowth".
