National Grid will soon be doing essential engineering works as part of its investment programme in the Selsdon area.
Electricity cables that run underneath local roads between substations in Beddington and New Addington need to be decommissioned as the cables have reached the end of their useful life and are no longer needed. A specialist contractor began work in May. Their work is expected to be completed in the autumn. Further work involves joint and oil tank removal at the same time as installing a new oil monitoring pit, to monitor cable oil and allow for future oil removal over time.
Works will occur next to the junction between Croham Valley Road and The Ruffetts from 2 August 2021 and will take around six to eight weeks to be completed. Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm. The timing and duration of the work may be subject to change due to site and weather conditions.
A separate letter via Royal Mail will be sent to local residents, giving them two to three weeks’ notice before the works are planned to begin.
National Grid have provided a dedicated community relations project email address and phone number to residents if they have any queries or concerns as the works progress. The community relations phone number is 0800 197 0118 and the email is [email protected].
