In Purley alone since 2019, over 70 homes have been scheduled for demolition and replacement, usually by blocks of nine flats, and Purley is now supplying a disproportionately huge amount of Croydon's total new housing requirement. Obviously residents, would prefer as little change as possible. However, if change has to happen, how much better it would be for the local environment as well as for the climate, if large homes are converted to flats rather than being demolished and replaced, often by ugly rectangular blocks of flats which are totally out of keeping with the local area.
