We have just been informed that on their latest visit to Chipstead Valley Road that the Thames Water cleaning crew were subjected to both verbal and physical abuse.
The decision was taken by Thames Water to remove the team for their own safety. Currently all cleaning has therefore been temporarily suspended, pending a review. It is sadly understandable that Thames Water are unable to send their team to clean the area if their safety cannot be guaranteed.
The sewage leak is horrible and stressful, particularly in the heat, but abusing anyone trying to do their job will not help to clean our streets faster or incentivise finding a long-term solution to the problem. The vast majority of Coulsdon residents are kind, decent people, and I know those few who felt the need to attack Thames Water engineers do not in any way represent our community.
Clean up progress on Chipstead Valley Road
Residents have been contacting the three Coulsdon Town councillors with specific areas in need of attention that may have been missed by Thames Water. We have been feeding these back so they can be added to the clean up crew's to do list.
Thames Water are aware of some outstanding cleaning requirements at specific properties, and will get to them as soon as possible. If you have pictures that you can send us of specific locations that still need to be cleaned then please do email them to [email protected] and we will send them to Thames Water so they can be logged and added to the clean up list.
In addition to this, Thames Water has asked for a Network Engineer to visit the area to conduct a visual survey of outstanding cleaning requirements.
We'll be meeting Thames Water later in the week, as per our local letter, and will impress upon them the need to continue the work of sorting our our sewage problem.
