Surrey Highways has informed us that a large void has opened up on Reigate High Street, forcing a large diversion to be put in place some of which enters the Croydon Borough.
It is not known at this time how long the road will be closed for but the whole diversions can be viewed on https://one.network/uk.
The routes affecting Croydon are:
- A23 Brighton Road/Lion Green Road/Woodcote Grove Road/Smitham Bottom Lane/Little Woodcote Lane/ Woodmansterne Lane.
When diverting traffic from A roads you can only divert via A roads which is why part of the route touches on Coulsdon. We are hopeful that this will not cause too much added pressure on our roads as a number of drivers will chose their own routes.
As the situation develops I will of course keep this page updated.
UPDATE: 10:40am - 11th June
Cllr Victor Lewanski updates:
The latest situation on Reigate High Street is that it was determined that the void was the result of a poor reinstatement by the gas company. The repair is being carried out today, with the concrete arriving at 9am and the tarmac at 5pm. It is anticipated that the road will be open to all traffic at around 1am Saturday morning.
