A number of residents and green spaces groups have contacted me about the loss of many trees in Sanderstead. The primary concern is for the loss of trees in Purley Oaks Road and on Sanderstead Hill. The local councillors have also received emails in relation to lost trees in Leighton Gardens, Hilton Way, Wentworth Way and Mitchley Hill. Whilst there may be good reason for some of them to be removed and some have died of natural causes the issue is that they are not being replaced. I note that in some roads over 10/12 pits are empty and have been for some time. It is such a shame. I am working with the tree officer at the Council to hopefully find a solution to this issue. Some residents and the Sanderstead Resident Association have even offered to pay for the planting of new trees themselves.
