While Croydon Council controls a great many aspects of our lives and our local area, it doesn't run everything.
Much of the job of being a local councillor involves working with different agencies to find out who is responsible for solving a particular concern or issue that a resident has raised with us.
Whether it's Thames Water on a sewage issue, or working with a private management company for a local road, most residents quite understandably assume that it's the Council that have dominion over all. A recent case that I've been working on has involved us trying to work out who is the lead to sign off on some testing for roof safety equipment in Station Approach. On the face of it, the Council's housing or building safety teams would be the obvious choice but it turns out the authority on the particular building on this particular road is actually a local historical association.
Councillors will always do their best to make sure the right query gets to the right person, and will work with them to ensure the matter is resolved - but in many cases the responsible body surprisingly isn't Croydon Council!
If in doubt, always get in touch with your local councillors to help with issues in the local area. If we don't know who the management is, we're in a great position to find out and to help you resolve it - even if the service is run by a private or public sector provider.
