I went for a long walk today around my ward to the boundary with Warlingham and sat for a while at Hamsey Green pond. I have to say that I was so disappointed to see that there had been no maintenance at all. The pond was dry and overgrown and full of litter which was not only in the pond but around the entire edge. This once beautiful pond with a rose garden and duck house was a beautiful place for residents to sit and enjoy maybe after doing a little bit of shopping on the parade. We were promised funding from the 106 monies (money from the developer given to the council from the large block of flats built next to the pond) but that has not been forthcoming due to the council's dire financial position. Something needs to be done as a matter or urgency to save the pond and the wildlife. I have contacted the council and hope that some work can be done as a matter of emergency. So sad. I have included a photograph of how the pond used to look when council staff looked after this oasis in the middle of Hamsey Green.
