I receive 1-2 scam emails every week and they're usually pretty easy to identify, mainly because the email address doesn't look right or there's an obvious spelling error, or the proposition itself is unrealistic, such as that a long-lost relative has left me lots of money. I also get 1-2 scam phone calls for week allegedly from Microsoft, BT or whoever, and for me, they're easy to spot because Microsoft would NEVER call an individual domestic customer, and I don't have a BT account.
Today I received an email purporting to offer me a Council tax discount, but it's also a obviously a scam because it doesn't refer to Croydon and has a very dodgy sending address in Japan. I sent it off to Trading Standards who have decided to publicise it as above, and I've also sent it to [email protected] , which is the Government's reporting address.
Please be careful.. there are some real villains out there trying to steal your money and even your identity.
