Local residents will be aware of the sewage that spilled onto Chipstead Valley Road in early February from outside the Midday Sun pub which ran towards Chipstead Valley Primary School.
At the time I worked with Thames Water who sent a team to clean the pipes and cleanse the road, though they recommended a more thorough structural assessment take place to prevent this from happening again.
We were warned that due to resource pressures that there may be a delay in Thames Water sending that second team. Sadly late on Saturday evening I was made aware that another sewage leak had taken place on Chipstead Valley Road, this time by St Aidan's Church and also by the Londis.
I immediately contacted Croydon Council and Thames Water to urge them to take immediate action. Thames Water got back to me today to confirm they would act and report back to me as soon as possible.
I'll update local residents as soon as I have news. We urgently need a long-term fix for this perennial problem - with greater developments and no supporting infrastructure improvements, combined with inappropriate items being flushed, this is not going to go away without a full review and plan to prevent this in future.
