The Sanderstead ward councillors are really pleased to be able to help the Friends of Purley Beeches purchase a permanent storage facility from their community ward budget.
The committee had talked about a tool cabinet to keep the wheel barrow, trolley, etc. for all the equipment for the work the volunteers undertake in the Beeches. Sadly the responsibility for much of the maintenance of our local parks has now fallen on local resident groups due to a significant cut in staffing. Along with the donation from the councillors and local residents it has been possible to assist this extremely important local group and make life easier for them to undertake the work.
There has been a significant increase in numbers visiting the Beeches during the pandemic and it has been particularly important for residents living in all the nearby flats. Families and local residents have remarked on how beautiful this space is and how important it has been not only for exercise but for their mental health during this pandemic.
