Today I was invited to attend the Dementia Activity day at the Wilderness garden in Shirley by the Wilderness and MHA Communities South London.
The gardens are 7 1/2 acres of a truly amazing space funded by a Lottery grant to create calmness and is beautiful area to enjoy.
Although as with any garden in January is not the best time of the year, there are a plentiful amount of benches, dotted around to sit and enjoy the different areas. The path is wide and winds around the whole site. My favourite tree of which there are many was the Eucalyptus tree with its white shiny smooth bark.
I began the visit with a cup of coffee and talking to the three members that attended, two with their carers/spouses and we were all invited to fill a pot from a choice of provided plants. I was paired with the member, who had no help with her, and she very adeptly planted Tete a Tete narcissi, ivy and a beautiful purple and white primrose which then insisted I was to have.
It was a very relaxing 2 hours for me and I hope to be invited again!
