When will the grass be cut by the Council? This is the question so many residents ask as they see the grass knee high and more in so many places. There are of course places where the grass can be left to encourage wild flowers and insects. A local resident has highlighted bee orchids appearing in a number of places and that is great to see. There needs to be a conversation with residents not simply increasing the schedule from 3/4 weeks to 8/10 weeks and still not coping.
it is of course the result of the Labour Councils Bankruptcy that has left Council teams so depleted that many are overwhelmed. It is unfair to Council staff that are left and deeply unfair to residents who pay for these services by paying a high Council tax.
As South Croydon councillors we continue to chase the grass to be cut particularly where sight lines or rights of way are compromised and in our parks like South Croydon Recreation Ground where residents can’t relax or enjoy games as the grass is so long at times.
