The Webb Estate and Upper Woodcote Village Conservation Area Appraisal (CAAMP) is now being reviewed and updated by the Council's Conservation and Heritage team (Spatial Planning, Growth Zone and Regeneration). They plan to research the historic development of the estate and undertake a character assessment, and produce a management plan for the area.
A walkabout was scheduled for earlier today, and we went ahead despite the rain. It was an excellent opportunity to understand the estate from a planning perspective, and to engage with local residents to to hear their views on how it should be preserved.
We started at the Lord Roberts which offers excellent coffee and light snacks before moving on to inspect the village green and the stocks and then wander down Silver Lane which is lined with silver birch trees; walking through several other lanes, we ended at the Promenade de Verdun which is lined with French Poplar trees imported specially from the first world war battlefield.
It was of great mutual benefit that residents were able to engage direct with the planners on site and discuss local issues. I look forward to seeing the draft management plan when it is produced.
