It was an absolute honour to stand in the Council Chamber and give my Maiden Speech.
I thanked those who made it possible for me to be elected, and talked about why Coulsdon Town is such a wonderful area.
You can watch the video of my speech above.
Thank you very much, Madam Mayor.
It is an absolute honour to stand in this Council Chamber as a Local Conservative Councillor for Coulsdon Town. I would like to thank all the 2,013 residents that put their confidence and trust in me to represent them.
I would also like to thank Luke Clancy, who served our community very well for twelve years as a Councillor for Coulsdon and South Norwood.
I would finally like to thank my mother, who is watching today’s proceedings, and my late father, whose passion for standing up for my beliefs I am sure I have inherited from him, and Members may like to know that I have chosen to wear his favourite tie today.
Madam Chair, many Councillors stand up and claim that their ward is the best ward. Whilst I do not wish to accuse them of misleading the Chamber, they are wrong. Coulsdon Town is the best ward, and what is more, the Chief Whip will back me up on that.
We have a fantastic array of small businesses, including a pottery studio where I worked for seven years. The first transatlantic television broadcast was made from this ward. And, Madam Mayor, we have one of the finest achievements of the previous Conservative Council – Cane Hill, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful recent developments in Coulsdon, or perhaps even South Croydon.
Over the coming years, I look forward to working hard to serve the whole of Coulsdon Town. And with Jason Perry as our new Mayor, I know that Croydon as a whole will change for the better.
