I'm quoting from a Council announcement: Croydon is not currently scheduled to have any elections during 2023, but it's worth knowing all this for the future:
Voter ID will be required at all local government elections and parliamentary by-elections on or after 4 May 2023, and at general elections on or after 5 October 2023.
The Government expects that the majority of voters will have one of the acceptable forms of photo ID which include passports and photo driving licences, suggesting that nationally only around 5% of electors will not have one acceptable ID. However recent research indicates that in London that figure will be on average 10%.
In order to enable people without one of the acceptable forms of ID to vote, voters are now able to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate – a photo ID certificate that can be used by them in order to prove their identify when they vote.
Please note that, when these rules come into force at elections, that there will be no exceptions – any voter that fails to provide an acceptable form of photo ID at a polling station will not be able to vote at their polling station.
