When I was first made cabinet member for Streets and Environment in May, one of the first tasks I wanted to do was meet the Veolia management and crew face to face. On thursday I did this, together with my deputy for contract management Cllr Robert Ward.
It was very interesting to speak to both the management and crew members directly, both have their own issues and concerns, and this will really help me further understand the issues at a more granular detail. All of which will help me in the process of the waste contract renewal, which is due in the near future.
It was also very refreshing to see members of the community appreciating the crew members, especially when the working conditions are difficult such as hot weather.
It is important that we are both offering a service residents expect, but the pressure and support to management and crew members is also adequate.
