A resident contacted me this morning to tell me about travellers illegally parking their caravans at the Higher Drive Recreational Ground right next to the children's playground. She told me there is already fly tipping and smells of human waste within the woods.
I immediately contacted Council officers and asked them to take swift action. I have also looped in my Kenley colleague, Cllr Gayle Gander as the park covers both our wards and she has previously raised issues.
The Public Safety team has com back and said officers have carried out a welfare assessment, have served notice requiring the group to leave by Sunday night. if they fail to leave by Monday then the officer will apply to the court for an order.
At the same time, Gayle has pushed for further security measures at the recreational ground given this is not the first time this has happened.
