Many residents have been in touch to ask me what's going on with the Town Centre. I've been chasing officers for a reply and have finally received below.
The first meeting of the Town Centre Board is anticipated for January 2022.
It's so important we work together to find a way to revitalise our town centre, we need to be taking a holistic approach, focused on innovative use of spaces and creating an experience that brings together the community.
"Dear Cllr Appleton,
Further to my response in September, the most up to date position regarding the town centre remains the August 2021 Cabinet Report, which I signposted. Regarding the Town Centre Board the Terms of Reference are being finalised and it is anticipated the first Town Centre Board will take place in January 2022. This is anticipated to be followed by broader stakeholder engagement. The other elements of the Cabinet Report are being scoped in more detail and initial programmes developed taking account of the Council’s resource in the 2022/23 financial year.
As further context, you may be aware that the Local Plan Review has been published for consideration by Cabinet on 6th December 2020. This review includes a dedicated transformation area chapter relating to the North End Quarter. Publication of this chapter was an action outlined in the August 2021 Cabinet Report. The North End Quarter can be viewed via the link below under agenda item 8.

With regard to the Fairfield Halls, as you are aware, the Halls are open and operating and the Council continue to support its operation as a critical part of the town centre’s cultural offer.
Yours sincerely"
