Local residents will be concerned about the number of thefts from vehicles which are currently taking place in our local area.
The thefts are mainly of tools and work items/equipment being taken from the vans used by tradesmen visiting homes to carry out works.
Last week in Blacksmiths Hill there were two sets of incidents – one on Tuesday afternoon and the other on Thursday afternoon. Footage from CCTV suggests a Jaguar saloon car being used on both occasions but with stolen number plates. On the Tuesday an attempted theft was made on a window cleaner’s van and on Thursday three masked men jumped out of the vehicle carrying drills and drilled out the locks of 2 vehicles, stealing tools from one van before being chased off.
Police have visited residents in Blacksmiths Hill and have some CCTV and photographs to work on – but please do tell any tradesmen visiting your home to be extra vigilant. These thefts happen extremely quickly and it’s awful for workmen to be deprived of the ability to earn a living by having their tools stolen.
