Croydon Council has partnered with the charity - Trees for Streets - to make it easier for residents to fund tree planting in streets and parks across the borough.
The borough has received funding to plant almost 500 new trees, and officers have begun drawing up potential planting locations, working closely together with local resident associations and parks groups.
There is a chance for residents to get involved as well by choosing to make a donation to have a tree planted in the street outside their house, or to sponsor a tree in one of the local parks as a dedication to a loved one or to mark a special occasion.
Find out more about the scheme here.
The sponsorship donation is £200 or £350 per tree, and includes: a 5-7 year-old "instant impact" tree, standing at between 3-4 metres high, with tree stakes, and a wire mesh tree guard; it will usually also have a watering bag and irrigation tube.
Street trees are fantastic for wellbeing and bring many environmental benefits. Top benefits include:
- They make us happy!
- Cleaner air
- Sanctuaries for wildlife
- Oxygen!
- Storing carbon & soaking up carbon dioxide
- Improving physical & mental health
- Keeping the streets cool
Find out more about all of these benefits here.
The ambition through these schemes is to reduce air pollution, absorb carbon, improve mental and physical wellbeing and generally make Croydon a nicer place to live.
So, Kenley, residents – let’s get involved!
