On the 10th of November 2021 the Royal Marsden Hospital and Croydon University Hospital held a conference at the Royal Society of Medicine to Celebrate 20 years of Patient Focused Research at Croydon University Hospital (CUH).
Over 80 attended the conference and the speakers included Matthew Kershaw (Chief Executive, CUH), Muti Abulafi and Ian Swift (Colorectal Consultants CUH) Professor Gina Brown (Consultant Radiologist The Royal Marsden and Professor of Gastrointestinal Cancer Imaging at Imperial College) together with consultants, doctors, nurses and researchers from a number of hospitals around the UK and 6 members of the Bowel Cancer Support Group.
This collaboration in Croydon has resulted in successful outcomes contributing to new patient pathways and treatments. Professor Ian Chau, Consultant Oncologist at the Royal Marsden said that Croydon now had the lowest level of Colorectal Cancer recurrence in London and possibly the UK.
The Bowel Cancer Support Group (at SECHC) has been consulted on a number of the research projects and had researchers come and talk to the Group including Professor Gina Brown. The Group was also consulted on the Colorectal Cancer Pathway introduced at Croydon 3 years ago
