Chris Philp MP explained in detail why he was so strongly opposed to two developments in Smitham Downs Road.
I'm pleased to report that at the planning committee meeting on 15/7/2021, the application for 20 flats at #5 (20/05370/FUL) was turned down while the one at #16 (20/05575/FUL) was deferred. Maybe some of the six Labour councillors on the planning committee are beginning to see the tide turning as the DEMOC campaign and the 2022 local elections loom closer. However, it's worth remembering that since 2019, Labour has already sanctioned the destruction of about 60 family homes in Purley alone and their replacement usually by blocks of flats, and that Purley is currently providing nearly 50% of the TOTAL of new homes required all over Croydon. This is excessive concentration of development by any standards.
