I had the pleasure of visiting the Shirley Wilderness Project in the early days of construction in early 2019, and I was delighted to have attended the opening event today.
The sun shinned brightly in beautiful Shirley, for an event which hundreds of locals turned up to view the magnificent work the MHA team have undertaken over the past few years, especially during the very difficult set of circumstances thrown at them with the pandemic.
I was just in time to see this years last few remaining Shirley Poppies, which originated from this area!
It was fantastic to see a local brass band play, shanti singers, and I was given a fantastic tour of the site by the team.
We are very lucky in Shirley to have this fantastic community asset for all to enjoy, but also the amazing benefit this newly refurbished site will have on the care home which is lucky enough to have as its garden.
I will most certainly be returning, I recommend you all to give the Shirley Wilderness a visit, for further details, please visit their website: https://www.mha.org.uk/news/latest-news/news_archive/reclaiming-wilderness/
