In 1923 Sanderstead Hill was widened to allow for more traffic. Was this a good thing. Probably better for access to the town centre but for most they were distressed at the time of the loss of trees and much loved green space. The ancient trees on the hill are precious to Sanderstead residents and form a beautiful arbour in the spring and autumn with the change of colour leaves and foliage.
