Residents may be interested to know that Croydon Council is embarking on a Bus Shelter upgrade programme.
The Council is working with Valo Smart City Corporation following a successful tender process to install, operate, and maintain smart bus shelters and digital advertising in at least 185 locations across the borough. The 10-year contract includes provision and maintenance of borough wide bus shelters with digital advertising at shelters and on street furniture, replacing existing JC Decaux assets.
Croydon’s estate of bus shelters will be replaced and upgraded by Valo to new bus shelters with integrated digital screens and smart city technology including wayfinding screens with live updates, a network of air quality, noise and traffic sensors and free public Wi-Fi.
The timetable is:
Removal of existing bus shelters by JCD: April 2021- Sept 2021
Installation of new smart bus shelters by VALO: Sept 2021 – May 2022
Given the gap between the removal of shelters and installation of new ones, let’s hope that we don’t have too much wet and windy weather!
