I was pleased to attend the Tree Planting Ceremony of Sakura Cherry Trees at Croydon University Hospital on Wednesday, 23 March 2022, with Cllr Jason Perry, Conservative Candidate for Mayor and Cllr Scott Roche.
The ceremony celebrated ‘life from COVID’ and also to marked Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee through the Queen’s Green Canopy project.
The event was held on the second anniversary of the date that the UK went into lockdown as a result of the pandemic and acknowledged the sacrifices of the many organisations and individuals that contributed to the nation’s fight against COVID.
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which encourages people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” to play their part to enhance our environment. The beautiful Sakura Cherry Trees from Japan were planted on the grounds of Croydon University Hospital prior to the Tree Planting Ceremony.
