Many residents, Friends of Lloyd Park and the local schools have been in touch with me recently regarding safety in our local parks.
They've highlighted to me their concerns around lack of lighting in the Park.
I've been pressing the council on increasing provision and have also been working with the police to ensure additional patrols in the evenings by our local team.
Initial locations mentioned to me have been the path that leads around the tennis courts from the Lloyd Park tram stop. Unfortunately as this is not under TfL (they confirmed this on email) and I pressed the council to increase lighting here. Unfortunately I have been told there isn't funding available and also that there could be a detrimental impact on local wildlife.
The other location I have had mentioned is the entrance to the Park from Deepdene Avenue. I have contacted officers on this and am waiting to hear back.
It's crucial everyone feels safe within Park Hill and Whitgift and I'll be pressing for increased lighting and for Croydon to sign up to the Women's Night Safety Charter.
