This morning I had a meeting with the fantastic local community activist group, Norbury 'Litter Free Norbury', together with my deputy for Shadow Cabinet Sustainable Croydon, Cllr Oni Oviri.
Growing up around the Norbury area, I know very well the huge potential this area has to thrive, and not be known as a litter and fly-tipping hotspot.
This group of volunteers are fantastic champions for Norbury, they have already held regular litter pick sessions, as well as pushing the council, and Cllr Mohammed Ali, to take a more proactive approach when it comes to helping to solve the issues Norbury faces with littering, and fly-tipping in the local area.
This is another example, where I have been informed Cllr Mohammed Ali, who is the cabinet member for Sustainable Croydon, fails to respond to multiple emails, or turn up to meetings. Litter Free Norbury has requested the cabinet member to go on a walk about the area multiple times, with no response! It is not good enough, the residents of Norbury and Croydon deserve a Cabinet Member who takes active responsibility for their local issues and concerns.
I have agreed to go on a local walkabout with the group, together with my deputy Cllr Oni Oviri, to identify the issues, and push the Council to make the necessary changes.
