I was honoured to lay a wreath at Kenley War Memorial this afternoon.
RAF Kenley has an interesting and significant history, playing a vital role in the air defence of London during the Battle of Britain. Yet at the declaration of war on 3 September 1939, Kenley was non-operational except for the control room.
The history of RAF Kenley and its role in World War II is well documented in the Bourne Society’s Village Histories, Kenley edition. I would encourage anyone with an interest in Kenley to get a copy of this fascinating and well-researched book.
We will always remember those who lost their lives for our future. Laying a wreath at the Memorial today was a very moving moment for me.
