Eagle-eyed Riddlesdown walkers have noticed posters requesting tenders from potential providers of a refreshments concession on the Open Space. This is a suggestion that is often made by local residents so I hope that if this does happen that it will be a positive addition.
My primary concern is that such a concession will lead to litter and endanger wildlife – from the livestock to bugs so I welcome the following conditions in the information pack:
In keeping with the City of London’s Sustainability policies, the Licensee will be required to:
• Limit the use of disposables by selling refreshments without wrappings and packaging where possible;
• Provide Fair Trade products where available;
• Use recyclable materials where available;
• Use natural materials (for example recycled and/or unbleached paper serviettes);
• Separate waste and arrange separate collections for recycling off site;
• Use biodegradable cleaning materials / products where available;
• Serve local products where possible and economic to do so.
Note: Polystyrene products and plastic straws will not be permitted to be used.
