Highly regarded former Labour MP Frank Field said after Rishi Sunak’s budget that (and I quote) – “Rishi has done a budget for the hour” and it was the “best budget in his 42 years in politics”. He didn't say that lightly. In those 42 years he has seen many budgets presented by Chancellors from both political parties. He’s a man of great experience and integrity.
Will Croydon Labour join Frank Field in praising the Chancellor's budget that will benefit Croydon, Croydon businesses and its residents through the pandemic and beyond? I guess not - even if it provides the best prospect of a speedy recovery from the country’s biggest challenges since the Second World War. Croydon Labour don't share the same values as the likes of Frank Field. They put their own Party political interests before the interests of our town.
A Frank Field/Rishi Sunak budget for Croydon would be far more likely to prevent Croydon residents further suffering as a result of Labour’s financial mismanagement that has made our town bankrupt.
It would be in Croydon’s interests if Labour leaders were to invite both Frank Field and Rishi Sunak to Croydon to offer their budget advice and experience to Croydon Labour Cabinet members who have demonstrably failed to produce a budget ‘for the hour’.
Will they now commit to doing this? Don't hold your breath!
