Purley Rotary Club was founded in 1923 so it's just approaching its centenary year. Part of Rotary International, the club has always focused on local charitable activities such as the Swimathon, which ran for 33 years and until the Purley Pool's closure in 2020 used to raise up to £25000 every year for various local charities.
This year, the Club's major fund-raising effort has been to raise £30000 to help provide two items of play equipment for St Giles' special school in Pampisford Road, South Croydon, and yesterday, some members of the club went along to see the finished installation. The Rotary side of the project was led by Roger Crowther who is a Rotary member and has been involved with the school for many years.
As Purley Rotary club approaches its 100th birthday, it's great to see it continue to support such a worthwhile local project.
